Born in Irland, Dublin 1964. Married to Emily O`Shea, two children, Alva O`Shea & Kane O`Shea. Current residens Sweden.
From my earliest days I been interested in animals, especially dogs. I never did very well in school and unlike other kids didn't spend all my time playing football, instead it was dogs, dogs, dogs.
My first dog was a cross breed German shepherd/dachshund called Peppy. He was a hard dog whit a lot of tolerance and like my shadow followed me every wear. At 14years and after a long fascination, I was on the hunt for my first rottweiler. After saving and searching for a long time I eventually bought my first dog and incredibly as it might seem I payed 350 pound sterling and that was over thirty years ago. This dogs name was Kane of Glenties and he was a son of Irish champion Borgevale Christian. Kane a strong dog with very much temperament, had a white patch that was big enough to be classified as a t-shirt so showing was out of the question.
I use to attend the shows mainly to meet other rottweiler people and to look at the breed. Six months later I came home to find a new puppy waiting for me in the living room, this was a puppy my dad had bought because now the hole family was addicted to the rottweiler mania, his name was Revlock nemrine contradiseanty and of course his pet name was Abel so now we had Kane & Abel. Abel was my first show dog and I had very moderate success with him by winning a few classes. He was a very difficult dog to show not only because of my lack of experience but also because he did not like the show ring.
It was several years before I acquired my first successful show dog and his name was ICH Baron Jack. Baron Jack won multiple best of breed groups and group placements and more ore less dominated the rottweiler scene in Ireland for a number of years. I then registered a kennel called Everready and whit this kennel had very much success for many years.
In 1991 I became an official championship show judge and my first breed was rottweilers. Since then true the FCI system I am an official judge for 15 breeds, mainly group 1 & 2. Now heavily involved in the show world I started to broaden my experience by handling other breeds namely poodles, boxers, Irish water spaniels, akitas, pekinees amongst others breeds and by this time I also became heavily involved in the organisation of the rottweiler club of Ireland. I held the position of chairman for several years before emigrating to Sweden in late 1995.
Having worked in the Irish military for most of my life I was very undecided what I would do for a living in Sweden. Because dogs occupied such a large part of my life and the Swedish dog scene was second to non especially when it comes to Swedish dog people, who have a keen interest in progressing and broadening their ability in dogs I deciding the right thing to do was to work within the dog world so I formed a company called, YOUR DOG SWEDEN. I started of very small giving local classes and lessons the Stockholm area. I wanted to teach handling from a whole new prospective because I long sins believed that the traditional way of teaching dogs to show was very sterile and demotivating for both handler and dog. Over the course of the next ten years this new philosophy of teaching dogs true motivation and the ability to work together whit there handlers became very popular resulting that my handling classes today are in great demand. This classes today give much more than just handling they give the owners a lot of information on how to develop better communication with their dogs in every day situations.
Since my teenage years appreciating beautiful dogs has always been important to me from two different perspectives. I not only want the dogs to look good but I also want them to function so my pursuit of understanding anatomy and function of the dog has almost been a second hobby. As a result of this, today I have many anatomy seminaries and work shops world wide and in resent years have extended this part of my company to breed specific work shops, most popular of course being the rottweiler work shop.
Shortly after arriving in Sweden I applied to have a kennel registered in the Swedish kennel club, this kennel was called JUST ASK as I thought was appropriated whit every thing else I was doing in dogs, if you have a question, JUST ASK. Since registering this kennel name the kennel has had a lot of success when it comes to breeding quality rottweilers. Just Ask dogs have been successfully competing in the toughest competitions whitin the breed. Because family and working commitments there is seldom time to show at general all breed champion chip shows so instead we show mainly at rottweiler breed speciality shows. It has become a sub culture especially sins the long tails that the vast majority of rottweiler people show at speciality shows.
Your Dog Sweden and Kennel Just Ask is ever expanding and looking for new ways to progress whit in the dog world.
